On the night of February 28, the Russian military launched a large-scale attack on Kharkiv, targeting civilian infrastructure and causing significant damage across the city. Residential buildings, urban infrastructure, and a medical facility were among the sites hit during the assault. According to Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov and regional governor Oleh Syniehubov, the strikes impacted several districts, including Kyivskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, and Holodnohirskyi.
One of the attacks occurred near a residential block, shattering windows and causing damage to nearby structures. In the city center, a drone struck the grounds of a medical facility where people were present, sparking a fire that led to the evacuation of 50 individuals. Later, around 5:50 PM Eastern Time, another drone attack damaged residential buildings and infrastructure in the Kyivskyi district, close to a gas station.
Syniehubov stated that the Russian forces deployed at least eight drones during the assault, all aimed at civilian targets. The attacks resulted in widespread damage to buildings and vehicles, with fires breaking out in multiple locations. According to the Regional Medical Rescue Center, one child was injured by glass shards during the strikes.
By 7:00 PM Eastern Time, Mayor Terekhov confirmed that nine "Shahed" drones had been used in the attack on Kharkiv between the night of February 28 and March 1. Initially, five people were reported injured, but the number later increased to seven. In one instance, a "Shahed" drone strike in the city center damaged windows in a residential building, a car showroom, and a hypermarket.
The assault left a trail of destruction, highlighting the targeting of civilian areas and infrastructure, and further escalating the humanitarian impact on the city.
